Many fisherman require a great cooler if they plan on doing a full day outing on the water. If you aren’t sure what cooler to get we recommend any variations of the YETI coolers because all of their products work incredibly well.
YETI Coolers aren’t just built for the wild, they are great companions in your urban fishing settings as well. We have used them on our fishing Kayaks, SUPS, and kept them in our trucks on a majority of our adventures. With several freezer packs or even using the proprietary YETI ice pack you can keep your beer, water, and any snacks cold for hours. One time we forgot to unload our cooler and came back to it almost a day later and with only one freezer pack, we swear the beer was colder than the ones in the refrigerator!
The YETI Tundra in any size is a great choice, we chose the 45 liter just because it was mostly going to be used while spending a day searching local water around the city for potential fishing spots and on day trips to nearby rivers. It seriously keeps ice longer and we have never had to use more than one ice pack or even refill it with more ice. The key to making the ice last though is being quick when retrieving your beverage of choice and keeping the lid shut tight. Another cool feature we liked is the material because it is pretty much bombproof and you can attach any sticker you want for individualizing your cooler. “Bear proof,” sure. However we still haven’t determined if it is “bum proof.” Further testing will be done under some bridges along the river this summer.
Another YETI product we have been getting a kick out of is the YETI Rambler Colster. Over-engineered yes, but it is pretty awesome and it’s a fun product! We throw it in our fishing packs with a cold beverage and even after an hour or so of fishing, we crack open the lid and…… boom it’s still cold! It isn’t as convenient as a foldable koozie (i.e. the UrbanAnglersUSA neoprene koozie) but still a fun gadget or gift for any angler.
Our product testing experiments on YETI included:
Beer still cold with only one ice pack in a Tundra after 24 hours – Check!
One bag of ice kept items cold for an entire 12 hour road trip – Check!
Forgot we put a cold beer in a Colster overnight and it was still cold in the morning – Check!
Lots of pond and river outings in the summer heat and our drinks remained nice and refreshing – Check!
YETI coolers aren’t just for those cool fishing and hunting guides, they are great for everyday Urban Anglers too. A tip if you want to avoid the somewhat high price tag is to use the REI rewards program. When you purchase stuff at any REI they give you a dividend at the end of each year. This allows you to put your dividend towards a cooler like the Tundra or Hopper and any discount helps!
