The Cerveza Sidekick – Dads and Urban Anglers Rejoice!
A new product that came on the scene this season was Fishpond’s Cerveza Sidekick Chest Pack. To start this gear review off, just note that this thing is worth picking up if you have been looking for a new pack to throw in your truck for any given fishing excursion! We have been testing two of these guys since our Urban Canal trip in Florida chasing Peacock bass and all the way through our summer fishing adventures. The pack is small enough to store in your truck and always have handy.
So obviously, the main plus of this pack for most anglers will be that fact that it holds a can of beer and this is clearly the intention of the design. I would say this works great most of the time, definitely gives your beer a good resting spot and keeps it handy. Add an Urban Anglers USA Koozie for a better fit! However, when wrangling a big fish out of a net or even scrambling along the rip-rap walls of your favorite spot on the South Platte just be cautious you don’t dump an entire IPA out! Beyond that, I love the feature. As a dad it has helped me hold snacks and water for the little dudes too, which is a plus for all the dad anglers out there looking to take their kids fishing with an Osprey Poco style pack. Our other anglers that tried the pack out used it most of the time to either carry water or beer and found it to be a cool aspect of this design.
The reason I was most stoked on this pack is that I can throw it on while wearing my Osprey pack that carries one of my twin boys while fishing. They love going out on the water and since this packs straps are streamlined and connect easily it leaves plenty of ability to wear a backpack or kid carrier while fishing. This aspect rocks!
The pack has limited space for fly or tackle boxes but we recommend using this pack as a simpler alternative to carrying a larger chest rig, sling, or vest. It easily carries enough flies or lures. Most of the time, I use either one Fishpond Sushi Roll for urban carp/bass flies or one Tacky Fly box for trout bugs and just pick what I want to have on me. It also has couple organizer pockets in there for extra options and accessories. So far I have been able to rig out with a can of beer, tippit carrier, nippers, one small cliff box, one sushi roll, and a go pro at the same time, so it does have some abilities to go big! The pack comes with adapters to hook to a yeti if you want to rig out a boat with your sidekick and keep it handy.
Overall, I love this pack and it will be a main stay in my gear locker for a long time. Check it out for yourself and enjoy the pictures!
